Lots of writing

I just sent my report to Jana and just like I told her I will tell all of you that lately has been editing my work and then adding more. I've gotten just about all the information I need, except for later this week I'm going to be looking at endangered species which i like. Not that I like endangered species its just that the topic hits home to me and I'm really interested in finding out what we can do. I know there are turtles endangered in the area and thats a big thing throughout the world. Tonight, Carrie and I are leaving to go down to the coast and then to the Darling Marine Center tomarrow. I'm so excited you don't even realize because I have been cooped up in this office for the past...5? weeks and a change will be nice. hopefully it will be nicer than it is right now with all the thunderstorms. anyway, time to head out for the day.
have a good one.

long time no blogging...

These past couple of days have been about editing my story and most of my work. Editing is alot of hours and hard for me to grasp because well.. I'm wordy, and so isn't Carrie. Everything is going good though and we're starting to wrap up everything. Mariam, the girl I talk to is putting giving me a picture to help me with my presentation because she has been such a big help for me to try to understand what they're doing millions of miles away. It's the weekend and it means I have two weeks left.
Excited and sad.
Have a good weekend.

days fly by..

Today was actually a really good day.
It seemed to go by really quickly.
I worked on some descriptions and went through pictures
I also went to the aquaculture center which was really cool
It was a lot different then I thought it was going to be and I liked it
I found out that the fish they grow don't even go into the ocean, they go to pet stores
because if fish stores get them directly from the ocean they can have cyanide on them
and we were growing clown fish, like nemos which I thought we would be growing Maine fish.
anyway, it was a good day.

pre-presentation time

Today I've been working on making a concept map for my presentation at the end of the internship. At the beginning I was way to specific so Carrie and I went through it to make it more general and easy to follow.
I also sorted out the information I have recieved from Mariam (my Kuwait friend) and it is alot of very useful information.
Monday, Carrie wont be here but I'm going to the aquaculture center so that should be good.
Have a good one.

People from Kuwait

Today was really good for me.
Not only did I get done (for the most part) my fish kill story and my fish kill map but I found out things from the girl from Kuwait.
Her grandmother helped as well because she's been there for so long. It's alot of stuff to explain but apparently fishing is just a hobby now there and their climate is changing extremely.
yesterday, I'm not sure if I wrote in this yesterday but I went to a seminar and I figured out a good thing about Kuwait's sand storms.
I feel like I'm making really good progress on my people section of this project =)
Monday I go to the aquaculture center, time to get out of the office!

my progress...

So here's a list of what I have done with my 1/2 of an internship
-researched and read up
-graphs on: imports, exports, landing catch
- collected data we're looking at in organized form
- map for fish kills
- resources for fish kills
I think I'm doing good
I have to admit that these three and 1/2 weeks have kind of dragged on but hopefully they will get better when I start getting out of the office. I don't like sitting in here all day but there really isn't much else I can do. I plan on going to the Darling Marine Center and the aquaculture area on campus.
I still have yet to get the information I need from the different countries, I'm trying but only a few people will talk to me and they don't even know what I'm talking about so I don't really have an opinion on the issues.

Productive?

I don't feel like I got far today.
I tried to do my map on google earth but that blew up in my face and I had to start over. Then Carrie sent me back comments on my descriptions, which I thought I had done better on. I guess I don't have very good science grammar.
Today was a move an inch day but Carrie said by learning more about my graphs and what causes those results I was more productive than I thought.
I haven't got any word back from my friend from Kuwait, I hope by monday I will.
Have a good weekend.

Fish kills

Today was alot of information and putting it all together like I used to do.
I'm trying to make sure I get fish kills and where they were and all about them in the Indian Ocean. Hopefully mine and Carrie's idea to put these on google earth will help to make it more interactive and interesting.
I realized these have been getting shorter, I'm doing just as much work but I think I've already wrote about it.
Tomarrow is friday!!! =) and payday ;)
have a good one

I hate quiet days

today I researched more about fish kills and gonu
I also talked to some people from Kuwait
One answered but he didn't know what was going on because he moved there from America
and the girl hasn't answered yet
That's about it for today
It was slow and quiet
Nothing exciting

Mission Accomplished

My graphs and their descriptions are complete! wahoo!
Now I'm just watching the clock for the end of the day because I didn't really wanna start something today that I'm gonna stop right in the middle of. Tomarrow I will start working on fish kills in the Arabian Sea.
The kids that I have been talking to kind of came to a dead end so I've been trying to get ahold of new people. I'm hoping it will all work out.
Not much to say really.
Going to see my best friend, good break from work.
Have a good one.

Missing Ends

In seems to me that most research has an end. Like a point where you can't go any further because you can't find one peice of information, or usually in my case my main website is down. I wonder why is it that I'm doing the research for countries across the world when I can't even get an insider look on what's happening there, and if I come to a dead end I can't just go ask someone because usually if I can't find it then there isn't much information out there.
Don't get me wrong, I'm interested now in what I'm researching. I just don't get why people there can't do this or why Americans can't teach them how to do it on their own.
So anyway, today I fixed up my graphs some more and compared them to other data. Carrie and I also tried to find GDP for fisheries in the countries but we just can't find them, hence dead end, well atleast on that aspect of the research.
That's about it today, I'm gonna go home and sleep, I'm exhausted.
Have a good one.

Short Day

When I first got in to work this morning I checked my email like I normally do, and the boy from Kuwait that I talk to had sent me and email:
in the last few years.. there's talk of nuclear pollution in the sand of the deserts around Kuwait due to the American army's use of nuclear enriched weapons in its war against Iraq... and sand storms are getting worse every year. Its lasting for months now rather than days.
The winter is not like it used to be.. many people are witnessing that winter is so much colder than ever before. This has been a very unique winter.. certain parts of Saudi Arabia got snow.. even though the Arabian peninsula is one of the extremely dry deserts of the world.

That's all he really knows about stuff in Kuwait. He showed me pages to go to for Kuwait newspapers. I'm not sure if it's just him that doesn't know about it or everyone.we'll see.
Other than that today has been a pretty uneventful day. I finished up my charts and Carrie helped me fix them up.
Now I get to leave due to the holiday, and that makes me happy.
So happy independence day weekend everyone!

Good Experience

Today was very productive. I have successfully made about 10 data graphs in excel. I did all of the research myself and then about 5 minutes ago Carrie tells me that there is a website that has all the graphs and all the things we've been looking for. First reaction, are you kidding me?! Then I realized (with Carrie's help) that it's good for me to get experience figuring these things out for myself. If I just had a site to tell me everything then I wouldn't have learned how to put my data in graphs on excel and I wouldn't know how to find the information. I've decided that it's always good to broaden your horizons. For one thing, know more than one place to get your information and then know how to put it to use, which by the way is basically what I'm doing here.
That's what I've done today. One more day until this week is over and I have a 3 day vacation WOOT WOOT. Have to add for a positive aspect on my job, today did go by faster. I think I just need lots of busy work not all research and read this. Something that takes knowledge from me keeps me happy.

Brand New Week

It seems to me that the days are just going by slower and slower. When I get out of the office I'm fine but sitting here makes me even more tired than I really am. I came in early today so I can leave earlier thinking ' oo my day will go by faster! ' then I realized its still the same amount of hours.
Right now I am working on getting together information on fish in each country. It's really hard to find all this information and even harder to sit still all day to find it, but I'm dealing.
My research work is only half way done but slowly and surely I'm getting all of it.
Soon Carrie and I will be putting graphs together and picture to post on the COSEE website so that will be good.
I've also talked to some people around the world but none of them have seemed to be any help to me, I even tried the myspace route and idk if they think I'm a stalker or just don't like Americans but all I want to do is find out what they really think about what's going on, if they have any idea. One guy from Kuwait tried to help me but then ended up saying he wasn't real big into science so he couldn't help me. IT'S NOT ALL SCIENCE, you don't have to know science to have thoughts about your country's standings.
Anyway, thats what I have to say today. I was trying to pass by more time doing this but I haven't really done much else.
So until next time.
